History of Where the WVRT Is @ Historic Huguenot
February 18 @ 2:00 am - 5:00 pm| $13.50 - $15.00
Historic Huguenot Street, at the center of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, will host a talk and book signing with historian Vernon Benjamin, author of The History of the Hudson River Valley: From Wilderness to the Civil War.
Learn about the remarkable place we share, from the early days as Native American homeland to revolutionary battlefield and beyond to a vital trading center delivering goods to NYC first via the Hudson River and later via the Wallkill Valley and other railroads.
Mr. Benjamin has lectured and written extensively on the Hudson Valley and makes his home in Saugerties. Copies of his book will be available for sale at the event, held at Deyo Hall (6 Broadhead Avenue).
Deyo Hall is near Mile 8.5 on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Shopping and dining all nearby on Main Street in New Paltz or a short distance north at Garvan’s where the rail trail crosses Huguenot. Or take a walk among the Huguenot homes. You can catch a great sunset at the viewing platform on the Wallkill River at the foot of Main Street and adjacent to the new Carmine Liberta Bridge.
